Gathering nodes need to be fixed. Herbalism and mining give small amounts of experience as you level, mostly rewarding you for going out of your way to gather nodes. A change a while back makes them scale naturally with your skill level, so that you can mine or herb anything, anywhere, just getting varying amounts of usable fragments or whole items depending on your skill.
This is also the reason why when I read in WoW forums of people skipping guide sections, due to being too low level I'm not agree and start ranting about it: it'll be a mess syncronizing with the guide and I've seen many people complaining about missing quests or accusing the guide for being innacurate, but not realizing that was their fault since they're skipping and missing a lot of quest chain requirement. Of course this apply if you're following a guide, believe me, it's very frustrating when you remain stuck in a guide section due to the reasons I've mentioned, more than doing grey quests (but they allow to be perfectly in sync with the guide) and goiing here and there to get the pre-requisite quests.
Third: Don’t skimp out on consumables. I recommend getting 20 flask, 20 Drums, 40 Runes/Food, and about 20 pots. If you are Horde I HIGHLY recommend about 40 Goblin Gliders, it will make your life so much easier. Consumables are pretty cheap right now (on my server at least) and I do recommend you stock up. Ask a friendly mage for some food before you start leveling so you don’t have to waste your buff food.
All the things that kept trade goods cheap while the value of gold was falling are no longer true in the new expansion. Most players are working on gearing up their main characters right now, and it will be a while before people earn the levels and reputations on secondary characters to serve the markets for high-end trade goods, so there are fewer crafters competing with each other to serve a community that is swollen with returning players.
Cooking benefits all classes, especially melee and hunters (it is a free source of food). Until higher levels, the benefits it provides are almost exclusively stamina buffs. While more stamina is always nice, cooking is not essential to leveling. Considering the time investment required, if you pick up skinning then cooking would absolutely be a wise skill to level prior to hitting your level cap, as beasts often drop meat useful for skilling up.
He goes on to say that the changes went too far, and that they have "no desire" to keep moving in that direction. The problem is they don't know how to fix it quite yet. Hazzikostas understandably says that they don't want to make blanket changes that miss the "real source of the problem," which is exacerbated at levels 60-80 when the leveling curve gets particularly punishing. The sky isn't completely falling though based on data: Hazzikostas says that leveling is 15% longer. In the short term they want to increase experience gained at these levels to soften that blow.
Tiragarde Sound and Stormsong Valley are both fairly similar zones, but Stormsong is a little longer, meaning that you might not even have to finish it to hit 120. Tiragarde also comes with a bit of a warning. There are plenty of side quests to do in the zone after you finish the story quests. Don’t do them. It’s not worth the time or the experience you’ll get.
If you already have a high-level character and want to quickly level up a new one, by far the best tools for the job are the items labeled “heirloom gear.” These pieces of gear have two very special properties — they bind to your account, so any character you own can use them, and they grant bonus experience. Their stats also scale with your character’s level up to a certain point, so you can equip a fresh character with heirloom gear and power through much of the game.

Instead, go to Timeless Isle and take the portal to Gorgrond. From there, fly to your respective faction starting zone(Frostfire Ridge or SMV), go to your garrison, and do the quests to unlock your garrison(A short quest chain beginning down near the water where you'd otherwise start after the Dark Portal scenario). For now DO NOT collect any more treasures than absolutely needed to buy 1 or 2 experience potions! Treasures continue to be worth superior exp/h all the way to level 107!!! You don't want to begin collecting them until lvl 100 or later.
Power leveling is the term used to describe the process of leveling a character as rapidly as possible with the least amount of play time. It can be used from any level up to level cap. Contrary to what many believe, efficient power leveling does not require endless hours of grinding. The best methods of power leveling involve doing many quests in an orderly fashion.
Buffs. Food/Flasks/Scrolls/Potions/Elixirs are a small, but noticeable, buff to your killing speed and survivability. If you have a max level character that can already supply you with cooking or alchemy, you'll be very well off, because the AH is a cesspool for this. I can't really give you specific foods or potions to look for, since each AH is going to have different supplies. Generally speaking, lower level foods are going to only last 15-20 minutes until you can buy the more powerful versions at 60+. Look for anything that adds versatility or your primary stat, and buy stacks for each level range(1-60/70/80/90/100)
Most classes in World of Warcraft start at first level, but Death Knights and Demon Hunters are exceptions. They start at level 55 and 98, respectively. This alone can shave a huge chunk of time from your leveling experience. Of course, it only works if you want to play a Death Knight or Demon Hunter, but they’re both solid classics that can dish out damage or tank in a group.
Isle of Quel'Danas: Special mention. At lvl 70 you can start doing the dailies here. Despite not being able to fly, the quest density is VERY high. I recommend hitting this every reset if you spend more than 24 hours REAL time(not /played)in the 70-80 level range. In fact, if you're doing a monk and only logging in once each day anyway, IQD WILL be your best exp/h for this level range. If you're going to hit the island more than once, it's probably worthwhile to change your hearth to the Shrine in MoP at this point to facilitate faster travel back and forth.

At Level 78, you unlock the stat Mastery, which increases your Shadow damage. When you unlock this stat you should switch your level 56 talent from All Will Serve to Clawing Shadows, as it benefits more from the Mastery. The mechanical change when using Clawing Shadows is that you will be able to pop Festering Wounds from a distance. If you want to attack multiple targets with Clawing Shadows using Death and Decay's cleave effect, make sure you play the Death and Decay below your own feet instead of the target.

As you're leveling, I generally recommend you just follow the natural flow of the progression through each zone. They're laid out fairly reasonably. But don't be afraid to hop around, especially if you're near a quest objective. You shouldn't actually need ALL of the zones listed to reach 62. Pick the ones you like best. It's much more important to simply be as focused as possible and flow from one quest to the next.
